Cory Doctorow

Sept. 12-19, 2025

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Sept. 12-18 – Cornell Ithaca · Sept. 19 – Cornell Tech

FRIDAY, SEPT. 12: KEYNOTE TALK
“The Enshittification of Everything (and what to do about it)”
3:00pm · Hollis E. Cornell Auditorium (Rm. 132), Goldwin Smith Hall
Register here to livestream
Free & open to the public. Book signing and light reception to follow in Klarman Atrium.

About the talk: It’s not your imagination: the internet *suuuucks* now. The enshittification of our digital world isn’t the result of great historical forces or iron laws of economics – it’s caused by specific policy choices, made in living memory, by named individuals. The bad news is, *everything* is getting enshittified. The good news is: we are not prisoners to the depraved foolishness of early 21st century policymakers. We can – we must – break free of the prison they built for us, consigning their terrible ideas to history’s scrapheap so we can create a new, good internet that is fit to serve as the digital nervous system of this fraught century.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 16: PANEL DISCUSSION
Radicalized: Q&A with author Cory Doctorow
5:00pm · AAP Auditorium, Milstein Hall

“Dystopia is now.” Radicalized is a collection of four novellas connected by social, technological, and economic visions of today and what America could be in the near, near future. Cory Doctorow’s characters deal with issues around immigration, corrupt police forces, dark web uprisings and more. Join Cory Doctorow and a panel of Cornell University faculty members for a moderated Q&A about the collection of stories.

Part of the Milstein Program’s M Studio speaker series and is a required event for program first-years and sophomores. Students, please come with your questions in mind!

4:00-5:00pm · 404 Plant Science Building

In conversation, Cory Doctorow will share his journey and insight about the entanglements of communication, policy, and practice, discussing topics such as AI, influencers, copyright, and anti-trust. Attendees are invited to come with their own questions.

Moderated Q&A discussion co-hosted by danah boyd (Professor, Dept. of Communication) and Brooke Erin Duffy (Associate Professor, Dept. of Communication)

THURSDAY, SEPT. 18: LECTURE
2025 Norlander Lecture in Science & Public Policy
“A Reverse-Centaur’s Guide to Being a Better AI Critic”

6:00-7:15pm · 120 Physical Sciences Building
Open to all. Reception to follow in Baker Portico.

About the talk: AI can’t do your job, but an AI salesman can surely convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that CAN’T do your job, which is bad news for all of us (even your boss!). Being a good AI critic means understanding the material basis for the AI bubble, because until you understand that, you’ll be easy pickings for the hype machine, and AI bosses will send you running in circles, hacking away at mere ornaments on the edifice of fraud that AI is built upon.
